This rare pair of reconstituted stone columns is a celebration of the architectural eclecticism found at the end of the 19th century and the very beginning of the 20th century. Of remarkable French craftsmanship, they are designed in the Neo-Renaissance style, incorporating the ornamental richness of both Antiquity and the 16th century.
The shaft of each column is a true sculpted narrative. The central section is adorned with finely detailed foliage scrolls and volutes, while the base is encircled by a figurative bas-relief depicting ancient characters in the spirit of bacchanals or pastoral scenes. The ensemble is crowned by composite capitals blending acanthus leaves and Ionic volutes, offering a perfect plinth for displaying busts, vases, or lighting fixtures.
Due to their high density and substantial weight, these columns possess exceptional stability. Over time, the stone has acquired a nuanced patina, punctuated by traces of natural moss that bestow upon them the charm of a “sleeping garden.” In terms of conservation, one corner at the base of one column is damaged; this minor sign of wear does not affect the structure and, instead, reinforces their authentic character as archaeological-style pieces or decor from a historic estate.
Sold exclusively as a pair, these columns are powerful structural elements, capable of bringing rhythm to an entrance hall, flanking a passageway, or enhancing a terrace with timeless elegance.
