This rare pair of lamps, originally devotional candelabras, is a moving testament to domestic sacred art during the Second Empire (19th century, France). Crafted in bronze with a dark patina and brass, these pieces feature a baluster-vase form from which emerges a floral bouquet of great finesse.
The heart of each piece is adorned with a bas-relief medallion depicting the face of Jesus, rendered with classical serenity. This iconographic detail transforms the decorative object into one of contemplation, often intended at the time to adorn a private altar or a bedroom mantlepiece. The scrolled handles and the chasing of the lanceolate leaves frame this portrait with solemn elegance.
The upper bouquet, composed of four light-bearing arms, is a feat of ironwork: the stems intertwine with blooming flowers, creating a perfect balance between the rigor of the bronze and the lightness of the botanical motif. The state of preservation is very good. These candelabras have been expertly electrified for modern use, while retaining their original patina and historical soul. They are no longer merely sources of light, but objects steeped in history and symbolism—perfect for an interior that combines high-period style with refinement.
