This solid bronze side table is a true ode to free-form design and raw material. Crafted during the second half of the 20th century by an art craftsman from the Paris region, this anonymous piece bears witness to a perfect mastery of casting and patination. It belongs to a resolutely modernist style, evoking the organic abstraction and sculptural design of the 1970s.
The base, possessing an almost totemic presence, is composed of stacked ovoid volumes connected by a daringly slender neck. The high-density base is pierced by two opposing oculi, creating a tunnel of light that passes through the metal and visually lightens the bronze’s power. The circular top, with its subtly vibrant surface, appears to float in balance atop this biomorphic pedestal. The “patine médaille,” dark and nuanced, catches the light with a particular softness, revealing the handwork behind the metal.
We have a set of three pieces available, each retaining the slight variations inherent in manual craftsmanship, making every example unique. Whether used individually or as a group to create a play of volumes, these tables are as much functional furniture as they are standalone sculptures.
